Housing
Chem-SURF students receive free housing at Arroyo Vista, a unique on-campus
housing facility. One house accommodates all 16 students in the
program. Bedrooms are designed for double occupancy, and rooms are
shared between two students of the same gender. Each room is fully
furnished with a bed, desk, chair, bookshelf, wardrobe, and drawer
space. Rooms also feature Ethernet connections, and allow for internet
access, including Web and E-mail. The house is complete with all
major kitchen appliances, a spacious living room with cable TV,
a study room, and coin-operated laundry facilities.
Dining
The students’ house has a fully equipped kitchen, including refrigerator, stove, oven, sinks, microwave, pantry, cupboard space, and a toaster. Students may purchase food and prepare their meals at the house, or they may purchase a meal plan from UCI Residential Dining. Several meal plans are available, and can be purchased in advance online at
www.ucidining.com.
Arroyo Vista Recreation Room
Students have full use of Arroyo Vista’s Recreation Room, which
is open 7 nights a week until 11:00 p.m. and hosts a computer lab,
pool table, foosball table, ping pong table, television, and soda
vending machines. The facilities also have two outdoor basketball
courts, and a sand volleyball court. Students also have access, at a discounted rate, to the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC), UCI’s sports and fitness center, which features a full gym, pool, climbing wall, recreation fields and courts, classes and clinics, and fitness and wellness programs.
