Re: Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Fall Call for Proposals
We are pleased to announce the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Fall Call for Proposals to support undergraduate research and creative projects. UROP actively supports undergraduates through all phases of their research: proposal writing, developing research plans, resource support, conducting research, analyzing data, and presenting results in oral and written form. These activities reflect the strong commitment of UROP and the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) to promote undergraduate research activity at UCI.
All undergraduate students in good academic standing and from all disciplines are encouraged to respond to the current call for proposals. Proposals should be prepared by the student applicant and jointly submitted by the student and a faculty member. The UROP Faculty Advisory Board will review the proposals. UROP will fund a varied set of projects, with grants normally less than $1,000.
It is intended that these funds be used for faculty-supervised, individual student research and other creative efforts. Funds can be used to support such expenditures as the purchase of materials and supplies, research-related travel, and the costs incurred in the presentation of research or creative activities. These funds cannot support major hardware purchases, salaries or stipends, or travel expenditures only. Proposals requiring no funding, or receiving adequate funding from departmental or other sources, may be submitted for a UROP Honorary Fellowship.
COMPLETE PROPOSALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE UROP OFFICE, STUDENT SERVICES II, SUITE 2300, BY 5:00 P.M. ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2003. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
The proposal packet should include:
These elements of the proposal submission can be delivered

Successful applicants will be notified by January 1, 2004 and may begin to make expenditures immediately. All funds must be expended by June 30, 2004. Students are required to present their research results and findings at the UCI Undergraduate Research Symposium on May 15, 2004, and encouraged to submit a final paper for possible publication in The UCI Undergraduate Research Journal.
Students supported by UROP must adhere to UCI's research conduct rules dealing with health and environmental issues, research ethics, use of humans as experimental subjects, care of laboratory animals, and patents and copyrights.
Students are encouraged to attend a UROP Proposal
