Housing

I-SURF students receive housing on campus at Arroyo Vista, a unique on-campus housing facility. Bedrooms are designed for double occupancy, and rooms are shared between two students of the same gender. Each room is fully furnished with a bed, desk, chair, bookshelf, wardrobe, and drawer space. Rooms also feature Ethernet connections, and allow for internet access, including Web and E-mail. The house is complete with all major kitchen appliances, a spacious living room with cable TV, a study room, and coin-operated laundry facilities.

Dining

Most of the students' meals will be covered through a meal plan from UC Irvine Residential Dining. In addition, the students' house has a fully equipped kitchen, including refrigerator, stove, oven, sinks, microwave, pantry, cupboard space, and a toaster.

Arroyo Vista Recreation Room

Students have full use of Arroyo Vista's Recreation Room, which is open 7 nights per week until 11:00 p.m. and hosts a computer lab, pool table, foosball table, ping pong table, television, and soda vending machines. The facilities also have two outdoor basketball courts, and a sand volleyball court.

Anteater Recreation Center

Students receive a membership in the Anteater Recreation Center (ARC), UC Irvine's on-campus campus gym. The ARC includes state-of-the-art fitness facilities, equipment, and activities.

Living in Southern California

Southern California is known for its perpetually sunny and spring-like weather. Remember to bring clothes for warm weather and something warmer for the cool evenings by the beach.

Campus Location

UC Irvine is located in Irvine, California, which is recognized as one of the safest cities in the nation. UC Irvine's Orange County location offers students an unlimited number of local spots and activities to enjoy. The campus is five miles from the Pacific Ocean, so students are moments away from swimming, surfing, sailing, fishing and sunning. Local deserts and mountain resorts are all within driving distance, as are local museums, sports venues, concert halls, zoos, and theme parks, including Disneyland, Knottps Berry Farm, Sea World, Magic Mountain, and Wild Rivers. Beautiful Catalina Island is just offshore and a short boat ride away. The I-SURF Program's weekend activities include visiting some of these attractions.

Around Campus

The UC Irvine campus itself is designed to provide a dynamic environment for students. The circular campus design integrates natural open space with the modern architecture of the academic, research and administrative structures. Buildings encircle the 21-acre Aldrich Park, and the campus itself is a natural arboretum planted with trees and shrubs from all over the world. Ring Road, a mile in circumference walkway circling Aldrich Park, is the pedestrian thoroughfare that connects the classrooms, eateries, libraries, laboratories, and housing. The Ring also serves as the outdoor staging for a full calendar of cultural and social activities. Bike trails connect UC Irvine to student housing and to the beach, and pedestrian bridges connect students to local movie theaters, restaurants, shops and businesses.
