About I-SURF

The International Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (I-SURF) at the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine), provides a unique summer research opportunity for undergraduate students to become fully immersed in faculty-mentored cutting-edge research at UC Irvine. The program is open to international students who are not currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at UC Irvine.

Under the guidance of a UC Irvine faculty mentor, students will gain first-hand experience and training in state-of-the-art research facilities. A spectrum of seminars and workshops will provide opportunities to build knowledge and enhance dialogue about students' research topics. Faculty will also host workshops focused on career development, graduate school, research ethics, and writing and presentation skills. At the conclusion of the program, students will share their research accomplishments by presenting their findings at the I-SURF Research Symposium.

UC Irvine is located in the heart of sunny Southern California, just minutes away from the Pacific Ocean. The campus is also a short drive from mountain resorts, the desert, and several exciting theme parks, sports venues and concert halls. I-SURF participants will enjoy several fun excursions to get the most out of their Southern California experience.

This program is designed to help students fully develop the knowledge and skills that will propel them into successful careers. As a result of their I-SURF experience, students will also develop a competitive edge in applying for Master’s or Ph.D. programs at UC Irvine or other top universities.
